Center For Peeksters Who Love Peeking

So I've decided to do the following, thanks to Target's rather liberal return policy (IMO) for the Peek, among other things:

1. Grab another Peek off of eBay (new in box, cheap).
1.5 Send in both Peeks for firmware upgrades.
2. Let the service on my current Peek run out (used a now-inactive PayPal SecureCard for payment, so it should just expire).
3. Start up new service on the eBay Peek.
4. Return the previous Peek to Target.

Sounds like a plan to me, and everything's capeesh with regard to policies etc.

Yep. As noted however, I'm perfectly ine spending money on a Peek. I just want the best deal out there :-) And my Target didn't have it.

Then again, if, when I go back there to return the device and they have a sale going on, I'll just price match and walk out the door.

I guess I look @ things through too much open eyes; but you're right - $50 is $59 (or 31.12).

Not that Peek is charity, it just seems being early adopters (like we both are - obviously) have more of a vested interest in seeing something they see worth in suceed and prosper. Target in my area is having mega deals (I just bought Peeks for my sisters @ 29! - just like you said). So spreading the Peekness is good any way you do it.

Like I said, it's your money - we all have differing ways at looking at the worth of that money. Not that my view is better than yours - it's free market @ it's best.

Response:

1. I'll make sure and e-mail Peek to let 'em know what's going on with the card.
2. Wanna give me the $50 difference between buying a Peek at Target and buying a Peek on eBay? Didn't think so. it is because of this $50 difference that I'm returning the device I bought from Target. When there's that much of a disparity between pricing in one place and pricing in another, deal hunting is absolutely allowed. And, by the way, if Target is promo-ing Peek devices down to $25, the cost per unit is much lower than you'd think per unit.
3. On selling the Peek, you missed the point. If I sell it for the same I buy the eBay one, I still end up paying $100 for a device that I could get for half that.

Lastly, Peek isn't charity. Nobody is going to starve over my single return of a single device. I'm still paying for service (despite it being redundant with my HTC Mogul...so I'd call it halfway to charity right there). In fact, if the process goes well for the upgrades etc. (I'm sending both in for an upgrade because I'll be using the original device for a few weeks before returning it), I can get plenty of users signed on (I write for my college newspaper in a tech column).

So yes, sometimes it costs money to get customer satisfaction. Especially when the pricing on your product is vastly different between stores. Also, if Target sends the device back to Peek, they do a ten-point check and sell it via their website for $100.

I can think of startups in worse shape than Peek...I'm sure these guys are turning a marginal profit at this point, and may already be close to (or in) the black...

Agan, if you feel bad about my Peek retur plan, I'll gladly accept a $50 donation, after which I'll sell the Peek from eBay for what I bought it for to whoever wants it, and I'll have a <$60 Peek for myself :-)

Not for nothing, but since Peek pays per data transfer, wouldn't be more 'nice' to go ahead and cancel the original service so they don't have to spend time (and money) emailing you about the inactive card and asking for a new form of payment?

Not sure why you would want to send in both Peeks for firmware upgrades if you are just going to return one of them. Your plan regarding another Peek sounds fine if Target doesn't just return the old Peek back to Peek (sometimes retailers do send backs on returns). Not sure about Target, but if they do, that's another ding against Peek. It seems it's in our (and Peeks) best interest to keep costs as low as possible. What you do is your business, but it seems to make sense to support Peek anyway we can, especially in the way of cost.

Maybe you can find someone to sell your old Peek to - keep the unit in the Peek family and get one more $20/month into the system. That way everybody wins. Sell it on Ebay or CL for the same you are buying the ebay one.

I kind of see this as protecting ourselves. We support Peek by keeping costs down on the return side, Target's margins say on dull side of the razor, and we get one more Peeker (now that's I've typed it, it sounds a bit perverse). Everyone wins and we help Peek keep monthly costs @ 20USD.

Anyway, just my $0.02 worth.
